When: Monday, March 10th 2025, at 15:00
Where: Room 508, UniGe DIBRIS/DIMA, Via Dodecaneso 35
Speaker: Tomaso Poggio - Massachusetts Institute of Technology
We are pleased to welcome Tomaso Poggio to MaLGa for a talk in the MaLGa Colloquia series, recognizing the role of the center as a hub for research in machine learning. His talk, "Science of Intelligence, a personal perspective," will provide a unique overview of the evolution of artificial intelligence from one of its most influential researchers.
In this talk, Poggio will share his perspective on the past, present, and glimpses of the future of AI. He will trace key developments from his early work on the mind of the fly in the 1970s to foundational contributions in generative graphics, gene prediction, and autonomous driving in the 1990s, leading up to his recent insights into the theory of deep learning.
Tomaso A. Poggio is the Eugene McDermott Professor at MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and the director of the NSF Center for Brains, Minds and Machines. A founding member of the McGovern Institute and the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), he has also contributed to industry as a former Corporate Fellow of Thinking Machines Corporation and a director at Mobileye and PHZ Capital Partners. He has been involved in launching several high-tech companies, including Arris Pharmaceutical, nFX, Imagen, Digital Persona, DeepMind, and Orcam. As one of the most cited computational scientists, he has mentored many PhD students and postdocs who are now leading figures in intelligence science and engineering.
Join us for this special opportunity to hear from one of the pioneers in the field!
